About Reflexology

The art of reflexology is a gentle, holistic therapy that dates back in history to Ancient Egypt, China and India. It is believed to promote healing of the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the whole person by stimulating reflex areas on the feet.
Reflexology involves the massage of specific zones, usually of the feet, that are believed to correspond to areas or organs of the body. Reflexology can induce deep relaxation, improve mood, aid sleep, help relieve tension and improves a sense of well-being.
There are very few contraindications. Reflexology is suitable for all age groups and may help with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. It is a safe, natural therapy that may help the whole person not just the prevailing symptoms. Reflexology has a good track record in being used by people with the following conditions:
- Muscular and joint pain
- Breathing disorders
- Stress related digestive disorders
- Fertility issues
- Arthritis
- Sleep Disorders
- Stress and anxiety
- Hormonal Imbalances
- Clients with a long term debilitating condition
- Pregnancy
- Skin problems
- Mental health issues
- Digestive problems
- Autoimmune disorders
What happens during a Reflexology treatment.
Before booking you in for a treatment your Reflexologist will check with you that you have no contrindications for the treatment. At your first session you will be asked about your medical history, and lifestyle, so that the Reflexologist can adapt the treatment to your individual needs.
During the treatment session, there will be a mix of relaxation and therapeutic techniques
used. The Relexologist's sensitive hands are trained to read the feet, picking up areas of congestion and activity in the tissues that reflect congestion or activity in the body so that the Reflexologist can tailor the treatment to your specific needs.
Reflexology starts its beneficial work by inducing relaxation and, during the session, you may experience a variety of sensations on your feet. The overall experience of a treatment session can range from a refreshining, clarifying experience through to blissful nurturing.
I have found it beneificial to combine Reflexology with Light Touch Reflexology. Light Touch Reflexology is a very gentle form of reflexology working with the subtle energy systems of the body including the reflected chakras, meridians and 'vital force'. The feet and energy reflex points on the feet are held or lightly touched for longer periods of time than in traditional Reflexology. This can be deeply relaxing to receive.
What you might experience after treatment.
Occasionally symptoms may temporarily worsen immediately after a treatment. This is what is known as a 'healing crisis': it won't last long, and it does not happen to everyone. If you do experience any sort of 'healing crisis' it is because the body may need a 'spring clean' to clear toxins and impurities. Reflexology is very good at helping improve the body's elimination processes. For example, there may be a sense of increased congestion in blocked sinuses before they start to drain after the treatment.
Other things you may experience after treatment include: an increased sense of well being and relaxation; and you may notice an improvement in mood, sleep pattern or vitality.
It is a good idea to keep a note of how you are after each treatment session. This is important infomation you need to convey to your Reflexologist so that they can monitor your progress.
